HFS Federal Credit Union’s recent community campaign to support hospice care islandwide generated more than $26,000 for three Big Island hospices.

Almost $20,000 was raised for Hospice of Hilo, while Hospice of Kona and North Hawaii Hospice in Waimea shared the remaining funds.

“HFS Federal Credit Union’s motto, ‘Where Caring Counts’ is an accurate reflection of who they are and what they believe as a business,” said Hospice of Hilo CEO Brenda S. Ho.

When members were asked to support hospice, “their response was both overwhelming and humbling,” said Jason Hayashi, senior vice president of support services. “Members donated without hesitation and the total they raised in a short period shows how much hospice is appreciated in our community.”

The cost of delivering the hospice and palliative care the Big Island community needs often exceeds the reimbursements received from insurance companies, Ho said. Donations such as HFSFCU’s make a tremendous impact on each hospice’s ability to continue providing vital compassionate care.
